No one can argue against the value of kindness in any endeavor, walk of life, religion or lack of religion. Human nature does not always allow virtue to be in its pure form for all the well chronicled reasons throughout the history of mankind. It is modified, exploited and agenda driven in the guise of claiming the "moral high ground". Your points are well taken and could be more powerful if you left out paragraphs 11,12, 13. Finally, God help us if we have to look to Hollywood for examples of kindness to guide us!

Joe,

I agree that Hollywood as a culture itself is not an ideal role model, to say the least. I tried to focus on a common theme coming through the narratives of some Hollywood productions (some of which are based on books written before Hollywood adopted them) rather than on the industry or culture as a whole. I'm sorry if I did not make that clear enough. Also, the paragraphs you mention were central to my point. I see so much unkindness (and, truly, hate) coming from certain political leaders that I believe exposes either their misunderstanding of the faiths to which they claim to subscribe or their lack of sincerity in professing their faith. In any event, the cruelty and hatred coming from some politicians' mouths and writings continue to take our nation to dark places. We can in good faith disagree about policy, but we should all agree that there ought to be no place for hate and vitriol in high political office.

A healing theme is much overdue as a unifying message for a next presidential candidate. I don't want believe I am being naive about this since we agree enough is enough about what is happening now.
